Speeding Conviction Codes
There are a range of driving convictions that every driver could potentially be charged for. Every conviction has its own particular endorsement code that will stay on a driving record.
You should be aware that the length of time the code stays on your driving licence is determined by a range of factors. Some motoring offences can result in a driver being disqualified from driving.
Most speeding conviction codes stay on your driving licence 4 years from the date of conviction. However, the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, 1974 states that any driving convictions are spent after a period of 5 years.
This means you won’t have to tell your car insurance provider about your conviction. Please note, depending on their severity, some convictions could stay on your licence for up to 11 years.
However, this is usually the case for serious offences such as causing death by dangerous driving.
Accident Offences (AC)
AC10 – failing to stop after an accident. 5 to 10 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
AC30 – undefined offence relating to an accident. 4 to 9 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
AC20 failing to report an accident within 24 hours or failing to give particulars, 5 to 10 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Disqualified Driver (BC)
BA30 driving or attempting to drive while disqualified, 6 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
BA10 Driving whilst disqualified, disqualification given by order of the court. 6 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Careless Driving (CD)
CD90 Death by dangerous driving by uninsured drivers or disqualified drivers. 3 to 11penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
CD80 Death by inconsiderate or careless driving. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
CD70 Causing death by careless driving and failing to give a specimen or give permission for analysis. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 11 years
CD60 Causing death by careless driving and over the alcohol limit. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 11 years
CD50 Causing death by careless driving while being under the influence of drugs. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 11 years
CD40 Causing death by careless driving and being unfit to drive through alcohol consumption. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 11 years
CD30 Driving without due care and attention. Also driving without consideration for other road users. 3 to 9 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
CD20 Driving without reasonable consideration for other toad users. 3 to 9 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
CD10 Driving without due care and attention. 3 to 9 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Construction and Use Offences (CU)
CU80 Using a mobile phone while driving. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
CU50 Causing or likely to cause danger by having many passengers in your vehicle. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
CU40 Using a vehicle that has defective steering. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
CU30 Using a vehicle with defective tyres. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
CU20 Causing or likely to cause an accident by driving an unsuitable vehicle or a vehicle that has accessories or parts in a dangerous condition. 3penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
CU10 Driving a vehicle that has defective brakes. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Reckless/Dangerous Driving (DD)
DD90 Furious driving. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
DD80 Death by dangerous driving. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
DD60 Culpable homicide or manslaughter while driving. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
DD40 Dangerous driving. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
DD10 Serious injury by dangerous driving. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Drug Offences (DG)
DG60 Death by dangerous driving with drug level above limit. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 11 years
DG10 Attempting to drive or driving with drug level above limit. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 11 years
DG40 In charge of a vehicle while above drug limit. 10 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Drink or Drugs (DR)
DR90 In charge of driving while unfit through drugs. 10 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
DR80 Driving or attempting to drive while unfit though drugs. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 11 years
DR61 Refusing to give permission for analysis of a blood sample that was taken without consent due to incapacity in circumstances other than driving or attempting to drive a vehicle. 10 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 11 years
DR40 In charge of vehicle while alcohol level above limit. 10 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
DR31 Driving or attempting to drive then refusing to give permission for a blood sample that was taken without consent due to incapacity. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 11 years
DR30 Driving or attempting to drive and failing to supply a specimen for analysis. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 11 years
DR20 Driving or attempting to drive while unfit through alcohol consumption. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 11 years
DR10 Driving or attempting to drive while above the alcohol limit. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 11 years
Insurance Offences (IN)
IN10 Using an uninsured vehicle against 3rd party risks. 6 to 8 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Licence Offences (LC)
LC50 Driving after a licence has been refused for medical reason or revoked. 3 to 6 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
LC40 Driving while having failed to notify about a disability. 3 to 6 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
LC30 Driving after falsely declaring your fitness when applying for the licence. 3 to 6 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
LC20 Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. 3 to 6 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Miscellaneous Offences (MS)
MS90 Failure to give the identity of the driver. 6 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
MS80 Refusing an eyesight test. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
MS70 Driving with an uncorrected defective eyesight. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
MS60 Offences not covered by other codes that relate to breach of control of the vehicle. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
MS50 Racing on the highway. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
MS30 Play street offences. 2 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
MS20 Unlawful pillion riding. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
MS10 Leaving the vehicle in a dangerous position. 3penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Motorway Offences (MW)
MW10 Contravention of special road regulations, not including speed limits. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Pedestrian Crossings (PC)
PC30 Contravention of pedestrian crossing regulations with a stationary vehicle. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
PC20 Contravention of pedestrian crossing regulations with a moving vehicle. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
PC10 Undefined contravention of pedestrian crossing regulations. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Speed Limits (SP)
SP50 Exceeding motorway speed limit. 3 to 6 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
SP40 Exceeding passenger vehicle speed limit. 3 to 6 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
SP30 Exceeding statutory speed limit on public roads. 3 to 6 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
SP20 Exceeding speed limit for the type of vehicle. 3 to 6 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
SP10 Exceeding speed limits for a goods vehicle. 3 to 6 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Traffic Direction and Signs (TS)
TS70 Undefined failure to comply with traffic direction signs. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
TS60 Failing to comply with a school patrol crossing sign. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
TS50 Failing to comply with traffic signs excluding a stop sign, white lines, or traffic lights. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
TS40 Failing to comply with the direction of a police officer/warden. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
TS30 Failing to comply with a stop sign. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
TS20 Failing to comply with double white lines. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
TS10 Failing to comply with traffic lights. 3 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
Special Code Totting Up (TT)
TT99 If your total of penalty points reaches 12 or more within a period of 3 years. Disqualification. Could be up to for 4 years
Theft or Unauthorised Taking (UT)
UT50 Aggravated taking of a vehicle. 3 to 11 penalty points, could stay on your licence for 4 years
