What DriveProtect Covers

Even the most careful driver may be caught on a fixed or mobile speed camera, or stopped by the Police. The consequences can include loss of your driving licence and, for company car users or professional drivers, loss of your job. DriveProtect and our panel of Solicitors will help you challenge any prosecution instigated by the Police for a speeding offence in England or Wales.

The Solicitor Will

  • Advise you on how to complete the forms sent to you by the Police.
  • Discuss with you whether you have a potential defence to the speeding allegation.
  • Give professional and experienced advice on your best course of action.
  • Plan how to maximise your chance of securing an acquittal, including pleading not guilty by post if appropriate.
  • Prepare a detailed defence via email, telephone, or face-to-face meeting if appropriate.

Representation at Court (excess applies)

  • Where there is a defence to the summons or an absolute right to acquittal.
  • Where there is an argument for special reasons not to endorse your licence or disqualify you because, in the opinion of the Solicitor, the circumstances of the case justify such an argument.

Court representation – Excess Fees

DriveProtect will pay the legal fees for Court representation, minus a small excess as follows:

Offence occurred AFTER you became a Member

  • £200 where representation at Court is required.
  • £150 for any additional days if your case “runs over” or takes more than one day.

Note: (We will honour the old £100 excess for Members who joined before February 2025)

Offence occurred BEFORE you became a Member

  • £995 where representation at Court is required.
  • £295 for any additional days if your case “runs over” or takes more than one day.

Note: We still represent Members who had already received a NIP at the time of joining, in good faith at the above rates.

For any future offences received after your join date, the standard £200 excess applies, so long as you are a Member at the time of the alleged offence. There is no minimum contract.

Important: The excess must be paid directly to the Solicitors before any case preparation work or representation begins.

The excess is designed as a commitment on your behalf, so that DriveProtect can be confident in allocating defence funds only to Members who will follow through with their defence.

Conditions And Exclusions

(1) DriveProtect Membership provides representation at Court for speeding charges as shown above. If you are summoned for other offences – such as drink driving, leaving the scene of an accident, or careless driving – you are responsible for the cost of representation. However, as a Member you will be offered a heavily discounted rate if you choose to use DriveProtect Solicitors for these matters. The Solicitor will also give you telephone advice on any driving offence as a courtesy, paid for by DriveProtect.

(2) In the rare event that your case requires more than one day at Court, the additional daily rate (£150 or £295 as above) must be paid directly to the Solicitors. All other costs for the additional day will be paid for by DriveProtect, up to an unlimited amount.

(3) In any rare or unforeseen circumstances that fall outside the cover for representation, the Solicitor will give you telephone advice on the best course of action as a courtesy. This advice will be paid for by DriveProtect.

Expert Witnesses and Site Visits

DriveProtect does not cover the cost of expert witnesses or site visits commissioned by someone other than yourself. If you request an expert witness or site visit to be undertaken by a paid third party, DriveProtect will pay for the Solicitor’s time in organising this, but the fees of the expert witness or site visitor must be paid by you. You are free to conduct a site visit yourself at no cost.

  • You can cancel at any time. Joining fees and Membership fees are non-refundable.
  • To cancel, contact us.
  • If you receive a speeding ticket while not a Member, we can still help, but you will need to re-join as a new Member. We cannot apply a discount to the Joining Fee because you were previously a Member.

How to make a complaint

  • If you are unhappy with any aspect of the service, please contact us.
  • If you are unhappy with the service provided by the Solicitors, you may also complain directly to them. We would be grateful if you also let us know so we can take appropriate action.

If You’ve Received An NIP

Already a Member? Here’s what to do.

If the Police have asked for details of the driver relating to an alleged speeding offence anywhere in England or Wales, please email us a copy of the NIP.

Contact Us ➔

If you are already a Member, please include your DriveProtect Membership number in the message.

We will then confirm that you are a current Member, and send your details on to the Motoring Solicitors who will contact you.

Please don’t worry if you are not contacted the same day. The Solicitors we use are regularly in Court and dealing with multiple Clients and Members cases

Please note: if you admit guilt to a Solicitor, they are not able to argue that you are not guilty, leaving only the avenue of Mitigation. If you are not sure that you are guilty then you may want to consider this when speaking to the Solicitor.

The Solicitors will give you unlimited Legal Advice and, if necessary, Legal Representation in Court.

It is very important that you contact us immediately when you are contacted by the Police, to give the Solicitors as much time as possible to deal with your case. If you have any issues, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Security for Members

All Solicitors who represent Members are vetted by DriveProtect and are specialist Motoring Offence Solicitors. Both they and their staff are subject to regular quality reviews. The quality of case planning, advice, and Court representation is of paramount importance to us.

  • If you are unhappy with the service provided by the Solicitors, you may also complain directly to them. We would be grateful if you also let us know so we can take appropriate action.
